The mother of all diseases of the body is stress. Stress is a tension of the emotion, body and mind. It is your body’s natural reaction to an extreme challenges, demands or pressure. Prolonged exposure to stress without proper management can lead to a condition called distress. Distress can disturb the body’s internal balance or equilibrium that leads to physical symptoms such as headaches, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, depression, panic attack and many others. Stress that become distress is deadly.      

Meditation is commonly practiced in the east and is spiritual by nature. Western Countries also practice meditation but differs in methods and techniques. Rather than giving importance on spiritual aspect, secular meditation emphasizes relaxation, healing, self-development and stress reduction.

1. Look for a quit setting

Meditation becomes easier if you are situated in a serious and quiet location without audible and visible distraction or disturbances. Turn off your gadgets radios and televisions.

2. Comfortable body position

Adjust your body and feel the most comfortable position your body prefers. You may be sitting, lying down, standing or maybe walking. Just be comfortable whatever body position you are into.

3. Breathe deeply

Concentrate on your breathing. Breathe deeply and slowly while focusing your attention on the way you inhale and exhale through your nostrils.

4. Make a demand then command

Use your will power to direct your mind to focus and pay attention to every nook and cranny of your entire body. Explore every details of your emotional, physical and psychological aspects of your being. Locate and identify the sources of your stress.


Meditation, contemplation, reflection, attention and relaxation are languages of thought and minds. These words are related to each other. Meditation, as an ancient wellness practice involves will power and focus to attain its benefits and purpose.
