Life after school can be quite overwhelming. The uncertainty of the future and the newness of everything is a terrifying thought. It is the adjustment period of being just a student and stepping into the real world — the world of adulthood, the career, and the professional world.
In the beginning, getting a job may often feel like finding a needle in a haystack. It is frustrating especially when that is not how you used to picture your life would be after school. However, that’s the reality of adulthood. The real world is harsh and the road to success can be quite bumpy.
And when you finally landed a job, it may seem like everything’s okay already. Like you are just a step closer to your dreams and goals — but it may be harder than that. The adjustment period from being just a student to being a professional is not as easy as it seems. There are people who would feel lost in the beginning — it’s like being in a maze with no certainty that you will be able to go back out.
The real world can be toxic. The real world can be a difficult place to be. This may be the reason why some people find it hard to stay in a job. The toxicity can lead to burnouts and burnouts lead to quitting. However, no matter how harsh and difficult the real world may be, it surely will teaches us a lot of lessons — professionally, personally, or even a lesson in life.
This is why it is important to find a company that you will be comfortable and happy with. In that way, you will be able to have that job security that you are longing for. And it is important because a toxic environment is not good for us for many reasons.
What is job security?
Job security is having to find a job and a company that you will be able to stay at for as long as you want. It is the assurance of the employee to keep their jobs for a long period of time. And a relaxed, happy, and positive environment can be a great factor in this.
Imagine working in a company full of issues and negativity, it will be physically and emotionally draining right?
Job security is the feeling of assurance of every employee in the company. The one that will satisfy their basic needs, will help them grow in terms of professional development, and will assure them that they will be able to stay and grow in the company for the long run without the fear of a sudden job loss.
Importance of job security
Job security is important for both company and the employee.
For many people, our jobs are our main source of income. This is where we rely on in terms of buying our basic needs — foods, clothes, allowances, bills, etc. This is the reason why job security is important to every employee because they have to provide for themselves or their families.
On the other hand, job security is important for a company because its employees are the heart of the company. Without an employee, the company will not function well. And if the employees are not having assurance with their job, it can cause a great impact on the company. So, it is important for every company to take care of its employees.
How to have job security
To remove the fear of suddenly losing your job you have to make sure that you are contributing to your company — that you are worthy to keep. Now, you might be wondering how are you going to prove yourself? There are several ways to ensure your spot in the company.
This may sounds cliche, but working hard really does pay off. If you are working hard, you will be able to produce more outputs. Once your employer sees that you are doing your very best to be as productive as you can be, then they will see you as one of the employees that are worth keeping.
By working hard you are able to prove yourself to your employer. Hard work results in productivity. And who does not like someone who can be productive every day? Always make sure to do the tasks that are assigned to you.
There are several ways to be productive, I personally love to make a list of all the tasks that I have to do. Next is I prioritize the most important tasks — the ones that are near their deadlines, the ones that need focus and attention. Through that, I am able to know which task I have to do first.
Always strive for growth
An employee who’s open to learning is someone that is worth keeping. It means that they are not the “know-it-alls”, because let’s admit it, it’s hard to work with those kinds of people. On the other hand, someone who is always looking for room to grow is really admirable. These people are often open to any changes and are very adaptable.
The more you grow, the more you will be able to produce better results.
Produce best outputs
I know it’s hard to make something perfect all the time. But that is the reason why we need to work hard, to be able to produce great results. The more we produce great outputs, the more we will be trusted by our team and employer.
However, if you did not achieve the outcome that you expect for yourself, do not beat yourself up. Instead, learn from the mistakes that you did.
Be a good colleague
As I have mentioned a while ago, it’s hard to stay in a company when the environment itself is really toxic. A toxic environment is never good — it may affect us emotionally and the outputs that we are producing. Toxicity is often because of the people surrounding us. So, if you don’t like a toxic environment, then learn to be a better colleague. Do not be toxic as well.
Dramas in the workplace inevitable. However, it is best to avoid them because it is never good for us. Build good relationships instead. It is better to work in an environment where you have good friends. Good working relationships result in better work outputs because you are able to also have great communication with your team.
To summarize it all, job security is really essential nowadays. In a world where, whether we admit it or not, money really plays a big role. Uncertainty is always scary, so it’s better to find a company and a job where you will be able to stay and grow in a long period of time.
In the end, for us to be worthy to keep, we have to prove ourselves, we must strive to be better, and we must always be good employees.
