4 Tips on Building Self-Confidence

Confidence can do wonders in your life. A confident person is open to more possibilities in life. A confident person takes risks and is not afraid to fail. Not only that, but it also makes a person feel good which makes them radiate positive energy.

However, confidence is not something that we are born with. It is built through time, and it is not an easy process. Oftentimes, we will face difficulties along the way that will shake the confidence that we are building for ourselves. But we can always rebuild the confidence that we lost, and we can always start fresh. Here are four tips that you can use to start building your self-confidence:

Assess yourself

The first thing that you have to do when building your self-confidence is to know all of your insecurities or the things that you are not confident about. By doing this, you will be able to know how you’re going to work on that.

Be open and honest about your feelings

Embrace your imperfections. Do not be afraid to admit where you lack confidence. You only have to admit it to yourself, so do not hesitate to be honest about it. There’s no one who knows you better than yourself. There’s no one who knows about all your imperfections more than yourself, so acknowledge them.

Name your insecurities, list them down

Keeping a journal is one of the ways to do this. Write down all the things that you don’t really like about yourself — may it be physical, attitude, or old pain and scars. Make them tangible. Once you have your list, you will be able to figure out what to do with them and it will be a lot easier to work on them.

Start working on your insecurities

Your list will be your guide on what you want to work on first. Take it one step at a time. If you are insecure about your weight, then start a healthier living. If it’s something about your attitude then find ways to make your attitude better. There are so many ways and platforms that we can use nowadays that can help us in any aspects of our lives. Be resourceful. Do not make excuses and just start doing.

Do the things that will make you feel better

You will lose motivation to keep working on your insecurities if you do not like what you are doing. So, make sure that your actions will not make you feel burned out by the end of the day. Find ways to make your process a lot more fun.

Another thing that can help you is to always do what is right, whatever it is that you are doing, choose to always do the right thing. It is easier to be confident when you know you’re on the right path.

Find your people

No matter how hard it is, it will all be easier when you have the right people beside you. The ones who will cheer for you along the way, the ones who will help you achieve your goals, and the ones who will never make you doubt yourself in the first place. When you have the right people in your life, you will never have to doubt yourself because they will never make you feel judged.

Believe that you can do it

Acknowledging all the things that you are not confident about will make you more accepting of them. Before starting working on those insecurities, you have to believe that you can, and you will be able to do it. Our mind is very powerful. Whatever you instill in your mind would greatly affect the way you do things, so always remind yourself that you can do it, and don’t let anybody make you think otherwise.

Be kind to yourself

One of the things why we often feel insecure about a lot of things is that we keep on reminding ourselves about these imperfections. This often leads to self-pity, and in the end we fall behind the thinking that we cannot do anything about it anymore because of our fear of failure.

This time, after you acknowledge that things you lack confidence, don’t let them conquer you anymore. The reason why you embraced them is for you to know how you will be able to solve your problems about them. Instead of overthinking all that negativity, focus on making yourself better. In the end, keep track of your progress also. It’s not only the insecurities that we have to acknowledge, but also our success — and remember that little progress is still progress.

Do not be afraid to fail

In the journey of building your confidence, there may be times that you will fall back again, but always remember that it’s part of the process. Failures are part of the process. If you fail, you can start over again just like what I stated above. Do not let failure eat you up because once you let the fear of failure take over, you will never move forward. Do not let one failure hinder you from achieving your goals. Remember, it is never too late to start again. Each success story has their fair share of failures.

Never compare yourself with others

Lastly, stop comparing yourself with other people. Not only will it make you feel less confident, but it will also ruin your life. You have to remind yourself that each of us has our own strengths and weaknesses. The success story of other people may not be the same as you, but believe that you will have your own. The beauty of others may be different from you, but know that you are beautiful in your own way. Know yourself. Know what you can and what you are capable of.

At the end of the day, it will all boil down on loving ourselves. People may bring us down at times, but when you know yourself then other people’s words and criticism will never affect you. Just do whatever it is that will make you happy. Be kind to yourself. Don’t mind other people. If you know yourself, you will not be insecure about anything. Focus on making yourself better. Focus on making yourself better and stop looking at other people. Be content on what you have, on who you are, and know that you are just as great as anybody else.
